If you witness an emergency that requires immediate attention here are a few things you can do to help.
PLEASE DO NOT hesitate to act. One person can make a difference. Thank you.
If you are logged in, you can report the channel. Most people are seeking attention; if you help us stop the broadcast, we might be able to avoid a terrible situation.
Especially in the case of a suicide threat, try to talk to the broadcaster directly (through a Justin.tv or other resource). Often times, people are simply looking for help. If you happen to be there you could save a life. We have a resource for people who need help, anyone in crisis can call the National Hopeline 1-800-784-2433. Calls are connected to a certified crisis center nearest to the caller's location. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Teens can contact the Youth America Hotline, a counseling hotline for teens run by other teens at 1-877-YOUTHLINE (1-877-968-8454).
If you observe something that truly requires emergency assistance (i.e. immediate threats to someone's life or safety) and you are logged into the chatroom, you can type in /emergency and any online admins will be notified of the channel in question. This is like dialing 911, so don't use it to report things that you may find offensive, but that aren't actually emergencies! Admins will know who sent the alert, and will take action against abusers.
If you know the location of the broadcast, make sure the local police know about the situation, they can often help.
Visit our contact page and describe the situation. Thank you.
